The current legal framework, Law 2081/92, (which replaced the Laws 1089/1980 and 1746/88), gave a new and fresh breath to the Chamber institution which now has Managerial and Administrative independence.
1. What is ACCI - Mission
ACCI: According to paragraph 1, article 1 it is a “compulsory, self-contained and independent union of persons and legal entities, which have a commercial activity in a specific area, it is a Public Entity and it is under the suppressive managerial supervision of the Ministry of Commerce (as far as the legality of its actions within the framework of its independency is concerned)”.
PLEASE NOTE that, as far as independency is concerned, paragraph 3 of article 2 should be emphasized, where it is stated: “Chambers are entitled, due to their independency, to act onsufferanceof the situated clauses but within their approved budget, in order to fulfill their aims and initiatives”.
According to paragraph 2, article 1, its mission is: “The protection and growth of commerce and industry, in its area, within the framework of the national economy’s interests as well as its financial growth. The offering of recommendations to the State on every financial subject, with the main criterion being the financial growth of its area and the servicing of the national economy’s general interest. What is more, the offering of recommendations and information on all financial subjects to its members and to whom it may concern”.
2. ACCI’smembers
According to paragraph 3 article 1. compulsory Members are:
- Persons, whohave the head offices of their commercial activity in its area.
- Legal Entities and Consortiums that have a commercial activity and their headquarters in its area.
- Branch officesof local companies andbranch offices or agenciesof foreign companies, aswell as production units, as long as theyare situated in itsarea.
The subscription Obligation begins when (a) a commercial activity starts & in the cases (b) & (c) when it is founded or instituted respectively.

Today, the number of subscribed companies at the ACCI is over 80.000, a fact that determines, amongst others, the specific weight of its interventions and its actions in general in the Hellenic Chamber Institution.
Member business Name and Title Search
According to article 7 of the new Law, the keeping of the business name protocol by the Chambers (articles 4 - 8ν 1089/80) was maintained and a new clause was introduced, according to which the Tax Offices, the Courts of First Instance and the Prefectures respectively, can not issue commencements or certify memorandums of association if the necessary paperwork is not accompanied by certifications or attestations of the appropriate Chamber controlling the name and Title of the business.
This way, each name and title must be attested by the appropriate Chamber before being used by a business must be controlled for the right of usage (of the name and Title).
